Heavily you rest
in the palm, gentle
brick, ‘til we witness
your audacious flight,
the breakage of bone.
Build us back up with
blood, mud, and birdsong;
teach us to soar through
the hopeful skies as
you do, canny brick.
No barrier can
hold its ranks against
your magnificent
arch, your striking and
strange liberation.
But how they will try.
